About the building

The building has a very interesting and long history. It originally served as the Prague Stock Exchange (1938 to the arrival of the occupational forces) and after that the Parliament was seated there (1946-1992). Between years 1995 – 2009 Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty was housed in the building, however, in 2006 the Radio started to negotiate purchase of the building with the National Museum. Since June 1st 2009, the building has been owned by the National Museum, which was one of the most important events in the history of the institution.

By acquisition of the new building, the National Museum gained another about 3000 metres for exhibitions. Also part of museum collections could be moved to the New building from the neighbouring Historical building which is currently undergoing reconstruction. Also, restaurant and museum shops are opened for the visitors. Conference and multimedia halls available in the building have the capacity for 500 persons.
